My first impression of the Grand Canyon was: I never want to have children. I literally had to step over numerous tantruming kids to get my first sight of the mile deep chasm. They must have just realized that they had been duped and this wasn’t Chuckie Cheese’s at all. That being said, my second impression was: can someone please keep that spastic little boy’s chocolate covered fingers away from my car.
After this initial shock, I got to gaze upon the canyon itself and it does not disappoint. As they say, pictures do it no justice, but this one shows the rain finally falling in the west side of the Canyon.
The next day I ignored all warnings and frolicked to the bottom of the Canyon like a gazelle and crawled back up like a salted slug. I’m so glad I didn’t have my cell phone because I would have wept an SOS to a park ranger if I had the means. The 17 mile trip down and back took me 11 hours.

Great job, Kai. Hope to see you in Seattle.
I’m just now discovering these fascinating entries!
