Austin is such a great town.  It is the size of a major city with all the benefits, but it has the feel of a small college town.  With great BBQ!  I was lucky enough to sample 2lbs of what the locals call the “Best BBQ in the country”.  I think that might be most overused culinary statement south of the Mason Dixon but in this case I may have to agree.  Franklin BBQ started as a smoke shack on 11th street and now churns out 600lbs of smoked ribs, brisket and sausage four days per week.  The problem is they open at 11am and all 600lbs are gone by 12:30 so getting there early is a must.  I missed the cut off the first day and came back at 10:30 the next day to ensure I got to try what locals wait 1-2 hours to taste.   The meat was falling off the bone and the brisket was perfectly seasoned.  Delicious!!

This is the Barton Springs pool in South Austin.  The spring is fed from an underground aquifer and stays a constant 68 degrees.  Pretty damn chilly especially at night.  The pool is $3 up until 8pm and free and “swim at your own risk” from 8-10pm.  I risked it.
