I spent the day exploring as much of Mississippi as I could but found the best thing about it was fried chicken shops every 15 feet. Jackson had about 2 paragraphs written about it in my guide book, and while the people were very friendly like all these southern folks, I really didn’t find anything that drew me in. I think most of Mississippi’s charm is in the countryside, it’s history and the small towns far off the highways.
I had left Jackson fairly late and headed south to New Orleans when my lids started to get heavy. I saw a sign for an RV park and decided to give it a shot only to end up traveling down some dark, winding back country roads. No RV park, but when I turned down a different back road I stumbled upon a junked classic car junkyard. I love classic and I love cars so this was the jackpot.
I snapped a few shots off, including the one above, and decided to find a quiet spot among the rusted antiques and wait until morning to take the whole place in.
By the way, this idea is as creepy as it sounds…

If you get back to Arkansas on your way to or from N.O. you gotta hit the Cock of the Walk in North Little Rock. Great Catfish, chicken, cornbread and hush puppies. My grandmothers used to lord over spirited games of tableside Duck Duck Goose on family visits there. The staff didn’t like us very much. You can also visit my cousin Todd in Beebe, Ark., where all the birds fell out of the sky a couple months ago. Careful, though, he has mysterious powers over man and beast alike.
Is this where you slept that night? Hope nobody bothered you.
This looks like a scary movie scene….
Ghosts indeed. There’s a haunting feeling so many of your shots produce – this one, I couldn’t take my eyes off it. The color of that light on the bumpers, the darkness above, the mystery of the light at the edge of the frame. I get a spooky feeling looking at the bakery and sunset pics, too. Boooo – be careful out there, Bro!
